David Hayter Forming Production Studio

Variety.com reports that David Hayter, voice of Solid Snake from the popular Metal Gear Solid video game series, is teaming with film producer Benedict Carver to form Dark Hero Studios, “a company that will generate film, TV, Internet and vidgame projects in the action, sci-fi and horror genres,” in addition to setting up “graphic novels, comicbooks, vidgame properties and original genre scripts for movie treatment.”

Dark Hero’s first film slated for production is Demonology, written and directed by Hayter.

“Many people would love to have the studio-based producer gig, but if you want to build asset value through a library, you have to be more entrepreneurial and avoid giving away a lot of rights upfront,” Carver said. “David will create, write and direct movies and TV series for the company, but he’ll also be a magnet for other writers and directors to work with us.”

Hayter previously scripted screenplays for X-Men, X2, The Scorpion King, and he co-wrote the recent Watchmen theatrical film with Alex Tse. His original screenplay for a werewolf thriller, Slaughter’s Road goes into production this summer and will mark Hayter’s directorial debut.

Variety also reported in July 2008 that Warner Bros had hired Hayter to write the screenplay for a theatrical version of the Lost Planet video game.
